We usually get our comparison tests from the traditional auto enthusiast magazines. You have seen these for every car out there: 0-60 times, skid-pad tests, understeer and oversteer, and power to weight comparo. At the end of the article the editors rank the cars and declare a winner.
Now, the guys at Popular Mechanics take on the mid-size sedan comparison test. The 8 car comparison pits the sales volume leaders Nissan Altima, Toyota Camry, and Honda Accord against the challengers Mazda6, Ford Fusion, Suzuki Kizashi, Chevrolet Malibu, and Subaru Legacy. Since most sales fall into the four cylinder, automatic transmission models those are the models tested
They are quick to point out that there is not a named winner, but rather thoughts on all the cars and what they do best. In this short (but surprisingly complete) article, the editor concludes that with such small differences between the tested cars in power and economy, it is the nuances that determine the winner.
There is one car however, that showed up in the majority of the testers scoring notebooks: the Mazda6.
